Seasonal Tips
Tips for keeping your pet out of the Emergency Room this spring:
- Dogs on leash are safer from motor vehicles and other injuries (including dog fights)
- Talk to your GP DVM about staying current on your vaccinations and deworming regimes to prevent infections
- Keep your garbage and compost "pet-proof"
- Watch our and pick up potential "foreign bodies"
- Socks, string, sewing needles, toys that can be swallowed -- not spring specific?
- Remember to have your pet microchipped, if they get away you can be quickly contacted
- Keep your pet away from puddles and stagnant water as these can harbor bacteria leading to diarrhea
- Review what plants you plan on planting in your garden:
- Some lilies are deadly to cats
- Cocoa bean mulch is toxic to our 4 legged friends
- Make sure all medications (prescription and otherwise, yours and your pet's) are secure and out of reach
- Be wary of open windows, make sure window screens are secure and intact and careful of pets on balconies
- When the summer arrives make sure your pet has plenty of shade and water and doesn't over exert as the heat rises
