Dr. Thatcher was thrilled to move to Ottawa in order to work at Alta Vista and Bayview animal hospitals upon graduation from vet school in 2005. He moved with his cats and has since acquired a dog, Mickey Fry, to join the pet pack. Graham was a kindergarten teacher previously and absolutely loved when the whole family brings their pet to the clinic and he can include the children in the healthcare plan. He is a huge advocate for owners playing a major role in the dental care of their pets by regular tooth bruching at home and tries to lead by example by brushing Mickey's teeth on a daily basis. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time doing home renovations, playing hockey and trying hard to remain positive about the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He completed his honours BSc in Biology as well as his DVM from the University of Guelph. Graham chose to come to Alta Vista Animal Hospital in order to gain valuble experience working with a driven emergency team and a very reputable team of specialists. In addition to working in the ER/ICU and general practices at both Alta Vista and Bayview, he also had the opportunity to teach the principles of surgery and elective surgeries to 3rd year veterinary students at St. Matthew's University in Grand Cayman in 2008 and 2009. Dr Thatcher was also proud to give a guest lecture on the Human-Animal Bond at the Ottawa District School Board enrichment program at Carleton University in 2009. He most recently gave a lecture on companion animal general practice at the inaugural Ottawa Mini Vet School held at the Algonquin College. This was a fundraising event for the Community Veterinary Outreach, which provides veterinary services to the Ottawa Mission and other homeless and street-involved people. He is excited about being more involved in similar community events throughout his career.
