Personal Bio

Dr. Gower always knew she wanted to work with animals but she did not like school when she was growing up. In high school she found out how many more years of school it would take to become a veterinarian and thought no way! While working at the wild bird care center she realized how rewarding it was to save a life. She also enjoyed the challenge of figuring out what was wrong with the patient. This inspired her to get a job as a veterinary assistant at Alta Vista Animal Hospital. She enjoyed being a part of the health care team and making a difference in the lives of people and their pets. It was in this role that she realized she wanted to become a veterinarian, so she went back to school (for 7 years!). She is very glad she made that decision!

Dr. Gower feels lucky to have a wonderful family and friends. She would not have become a veterinarian with out their constant support and encouragement. Her number one supporter is her husband Matt who she has been with since high school! She has three beautiful cats, MoJo, Angel and Panda and a very cute dog, Heidi. Her furry family members are always there to brighten her day. Dr. Gower says "they are a constant source affection and cuteness!" In her free time, Dr. Gower likes to knit, bike or skate along the canal, bake and spend time with family and friends.

Professional Bio

Dr. Gower graduated from Carleton University in 2005 and the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in 2009. In her third year of veterinary college she received the OSPCA Veterinary Student Award for exceptional compassion toward, and interest in, animals.

After graduation, she interviewed at several clinics. When Alta Vista Animal Hospital offered her a job she accepted the position with glee! She finds the high standard of patient care and client service along with a friendly and caring team to be the perfect fit for her.

After being with Alta Vista Animal Hospital for only seven months, she received a Bond award. This award is given to somebody who strives for excellence, is compassionate and goes above the call of duty on a regular basis with patients, clients and co-workers. This was a big honor for Dr. Gower as it represents all of the values that she strives for.
