3rd annual Alta Vista Winterlude Triathlon
Every February, Winterlude in Ottawa kicks off with the Winterlude Triathlon.
The event takes place at Dow's Lake and includes an 8km skate on the canal, a 5km ski around the Arboretum then a 5km run on the canal.
Teams of 3 can enter the relay or individuals can complete the whole race on their own.
This year, Alta Vista took part in the fun for the 3rd straight year. At 6:45am on Saturday February 6th, 24 hearty staff from the hospital (including veterinarians, technicians, receptionists, vet assistants and clinic owners) braved a freezing cold winter day on the canal. We entered 8 teams of 3 people, the largest showing of any business in Ottawa by far. Many other staff, family and friends came out to cheer us on.
The team from the surgical department, consisting of Dr Nick Parker, Dr Julius Liptak and Angie Crawford placed first at the clinic.
2nd place went to the team of Dr Dan Rodgers, Dr Marge McIsaac and Julie Dwyer.
After 1½ hours of fun, we all headed to the Heart and crown for a hearty breakfast and post race recaps.
Next year our goal is to enter 10 teams and if we succeed, Dr Graham Thatcher has agreed to complete the whole race by himself! Now there's a challenge.
